The Nigerian police who took to Twitter to share some safety cautions when approaching a security checkpoint or when flagged-down by the Police or other security agencies, told Nigerians not to tell a policeman ‘shoot me if you can’.
According to the Nigerian Police, statements such as ‘shoot me if you can’ can push a policeman to kill a civilian as the mental state of the security officer is not known at that time. The tweet read;
Oftentimes, you hear people say things like ‘shoot me, if you can!” Note that this is a recipe for disaster! It is very provocative and an unnecessary call for war. So, please play safe, more so, as you do not know the state of mind of the officer concerned.
The tweet caught the attention of Nigerians who took to the page to drag the Nigerian Police over the statement, which they claimed confirmed that most police officers are mentally unstable. Here are some tweets below;
Oh so you have just confirmed you have officers with unstable state of mind. In other word, some of the policemen have mental challenges or are crazy? My wonderment!
@segalink over to you!
We MUST never Distinguished. They are trying so hard to make our country an animal kingdom where the stronger animal eats up the weak ones. We must say No to Police bullying!
Yes, it is provocative. Also, it is stupid to put guns in the hands of people with poor self-control. Instead of looking for ways to blame the victims for the abuse your men mete on them, you should be taking steps to mitigate abuse by your men.
For your information, barely any one of their victims ever dared them to shoot. Was it Kolade Johnson who dared them to shoot? Or that woman killed in Abuja last year or so? Or that woman selling by the roadside? Or the Keke napep driver who didn’t want to pay N50?
