A former Brazilian striker, Valdiram Caetano de Morais, was reportedly murdered over the weekend, as his corpse was found in the streets of Santana area of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Three men were arrested shortly after the former Brazilian striker was murdered, however one of them has since been released because of lack of evidence of his participation. The remaining two are in police custody, as Valdiram’s body underwent an autopsy with the Institute of Legal Medicine. Marca reported that an investigation into Valdiram’s death is ongoing, as it was further gathered that he had been battling alcoholism and drug addiction for over 10 years.
Born in the state of Pernambuco, he started out as a promising footballer with Vasco de Gama 13 years ago, where he played alongside Romario who was ending his career at the time. In fact, he was top scorer in the Copa Brasilena in 2006.
Valdiram stood out more for his off-the-field behaviour and his nickname according to media in Brazil was ‘Bad Boy’. After his exit from the club in 2007 he went on to play for 18 different clubs up until 2011, when his career came to a halt due to his lifestyle problems off the field. An opportunity came his way in 2017 with Atlantico de Bahia, but he barely played a game after fighting with the coach of the club and he was subsequently sent to play in the reserves.
