Russell Wilson, Ciara’s husband is now NFL’s highest paid player following his new contract with Seahawks through the 2023 season.
According to NFL Network and ESPN, the deal is the richest in NFL history, running four years at a price of $140 million, including a record $65 million signing bonus. The average annual value of $35 million allows Wilson to surpass Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers as the highest-paid player in the league. Rodgers had held that mantle since last August.
Though it was earlier speculated that the Wilson will join the Giants, however the new deal has shut down the move as it was further gathered that he will be receiving $107 million guaranteed and even has a no-trade clause, per NFL Network. “Hey, Seattle,” a shirtless and tired-sounding Wilson said in his post, his wife Ciara resting on his shoulder, “we got a deal.”
Russell Wilson who is now NFL’s highest paid player, was the 75th overall pick in the 2012 draft. He signed his first contract extension in July, 2015–a four-year, $86 million deal with a $31 million signing bonus. His base salary of $15.5 million in 2018 was one of the NFL’s best bargains, as was the $17 million he was to make with no window beyond the franchise tag designation if this new deal didn’t get done. He is also also one of the league’s best deep throwers–per Pro Football Focus, he tied with Ben Roethlisberger and Patrick Mahomes with 15 touchdown passes on throws going 20 yards in the air or more, and he had just one deep interception to Roethlisberger’s two and Mahomes’s six.
