A Nigerian man identified as Oluwaseyi Dada, has been jailed after his ex-girfriend fell on her on knife during a scuffle.
The Nigerian man who before now pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of 17-year-old Katrina Makunova, was handed a two years and three months jail sentence in what Judge Nicholas Loraine-Smith described as an “extraordinary case”.
The Judge told the Nigerian man who he jailed after his ex-girfriend fell on her on knife during a scuffle;
“She died from a single knife wound. The kitchen knife that caused her death was hers and had, it seems, been brought to the scene by her in a handbag you had given her.
It appears that somehow in the struggle between you and her, the blade of the knife was pushed through the bag from the inside and tragically pierced her chest and heart. There is no evidence that you ever touched it before she received her fatal injury.”
However it was gathered that Dada will serve half of his sentence before being released on license, Miss Katrina Makunova’ s relatives shouted:
“Are you serious? It’s a f****** joke. She was 17 years (old). One year for my sister. It’s a f****** joke.”
They were however led out of the court by police liaison officers, even though their shouting could be heard from outside the courtroom. Before the sentencing, the court heard how Dada and 17-year-old Katrina Makunova had been in a relationship that had recently deteriorated.
However from series of social media communications obtained by police from the victim’s mobile phone, it was revealed that both parties hurled threats and insults at each other. On 12 July 2018, Katrina had gone to the lobby of a block of flats on Brisbane Street where Dada lived. The pair encountered each other on the ground floor and a struggle began. Both of them fell, but unfortunately the knife Katrina was carrying in her bag pierced through her chest.
